" It was no accident, no coincidence that the seasons came round and round year after year. It was The Lord speaking to all of us and showing us over and over again the birth, life, death and resurrection
of His only begotten Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ, our Lord. It was like a best loved story being told day after day with each sunrise and sunset, year after year, with the seasons, down through the ages since time began."
-Francine Rivers, The Last Sin Eater
When I read this passage in the novel referenced above, it was as if a new revelation had
been downloaded in me! Of course, the desolation of winter itself speaks to the death of Christ at Calvary. The annual rebirth of spring is His incarnation, and summer (of which I am so fond), is life itself! Everything miraculously grows and sings! This
life continues into early Autumn, a season bursting with crimson and gold, colors I can easily associate with my Savior.
...But when those vibrant leaves begin to fall and lose their life, so it is with the earthly,
sinless life of Jesus.
Winter sets in. A garden that brought me daylilies and wild roses in August, brings me unexpected hope in February... Out of desolation, Jesus produces life. Out of dormancy, He produces
rebirth. On a snow day like this, He downloads inspiration, giving me a fresh perspective on the season I dislike most of all...
..."But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when
it will join God's children in glorious freedom from death and decay. " Romans 8:21
